East Side Bike Infrastructure Tour
Sunday June 1, 2025 9:30am - 12:00pm CDT
Hosted by Craig Weinhold and Madison Bikes
Come on a 10-14 mile circle tour of bike infrastructure on the east side of Madison with some stop-and-talk about the good & bad, history, upcoming projects, BRT changes, and more. This ride is intended for Madison Alders and people interested in infrastructure policy. The focus will be on the Southeast Area Plan currently  in action (the City has a survey that closes on May 30, so fill that survey out BEFORE this ride. I will also take feedback from this ride and submit it).  Some of the roads travelled will be a bit sketchy since, frankly, that's the reality of biking around the east side.
When: Sunday June 1, 2025 at 9:30am      (duration 2-2.5 hours) Where: Meet on the Madison Public Library Pinney at the corner of Cottage Grove and Dempsey Rds (google maps).

FLUX BIKES at ArtLitLab
Hosted by ArtLitLab
FLUX BIKES Auricle New Music Series presents Flux Bikes, a concert to kick off Madison Bike Week 2025 on Sunday, June 1 at 7:00pm. Free admission, donations encouraged.
Flux Bikes makes long distance music and is proud to be presented by the Auricle New Music Series to kick off Madison Bike Week 2025. Rob Frye (based in Chicago, plays in Bitchin Bajas, Exoplanet) rides on two-wheeled air, traveling near and far to discover the sonic and transportative capabilities of his bicycle tires, rims, and spokes. Played and layered like drums, a relationship is discovered between these everyday objects and more conventional instruments like flutes and synthesizers.
Documented at www.fluxbikes.blogspot.com and more recently @flux_bikes on Instagram, Rob believes in the simple power of the bicycle, riding to every show since the project's inception in 2010. Trips have included: LA to San Francisco, Chicago to Milwaukee, Austin to New Orleans, Valencia to Barcelona, Munich to Vienna, and now Chicago to Madison.
Madison improvisor and bike enthusiast Tim Russell will collaborate with Flux Bikes in this performance.

Coffee Outside Wednesday!
Hosted by Cool Bikes North
Get your mid-week caffeine vibe off to a good start with a Coffee Outside hosted by Cool Bikes North & Friends, Wednesday June 4th at 8AM.  Make your way by bike to the tippy-top of the Warner Park sledding hill/dog park observation lookout (directions below).  Bring your own camp coffee setup--stove, brew kit, beans, water, picnic blanket, etc. -- or a mug and your best manners; leave with a big smile and a case of the jitters, or as we like to call it, "speed wobble." James Capuccio and Jakub Luba will co-host, and we'll have some fun sharing brew recipes and hot tips on good beans.  We'll do our best to have extra water / make-it-hot things / choice beans on hand, but bring your own if you can!  Sharing rules.
How to get to the spot:  From Sheridan Drive take the paved bike & pedestrian path into the park and make an immediate left on the grassy path.  Or, from the rainbow shelter follow the paved path southward over the bridge and up the hill allllmost all the way to Sheridan, then look right.  There we'll be.  See you there!

Bike Rodeo
Hosted by Middleton Police Department and Middleton Parks and Rec
About the Middleton Police Department’s Bike Rodeo
The Middleton Police Department’s Bike Rodeo is an annual community safety event designed to educate and empower young cyclists through hands-on learning and fun, interactive activities. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the parking lot of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church (2015 Parmenter Street).
The Bike Rodeo focuses on bicycle safety, skill-building, and traffic awareness for elementary and middle school-aged children. Participants will rotate through a series of themed stations, each designed to teach critical components of safe biking and responsible road use. The goal is to help children become more confident, capable, and cautious riders—equipping them with the skills to avoid common biking hazards and better understand their responsibilities when sharing the road.
Stations include:

  • Start & Stop: Teaching controlled stopping and proper starting techniques
  • Signals & Scans: Practicing hand signals and scanning for traffic before turning
  • Obstacle Avoidance: Maneuvering safely around unexpected hazards
  • Driveway & Mid-Block Exits: Navigating common residential riding dangers
  • Traffic Signs & Intersections: Understanding Road signs and intersection behavior
  • Right-of-Way: Learning who goes first and why it matters
  • Balance & Bike Games: Developing core skills through balance-focused games
An additional Tyke Track will be available for the youngest riders or beginners, offering a simplified course with age-appropriate guidance.
Before participating in the course, each child will go through a helmet and bike safety check to ensure their equipment is fitted and functioning properly. Parents are encouraged to stay, watch, and even participate in discussions about cycling safety.
The event is made possible through a collaboration between the Middleton Police Department, local businesses, community volunteers, and partners including the Wisconsin Bike Federation, Safe Kids Wisconsin, and area organizations like Wheel & Sprocket, Trek, and Wheels for Winners. Volunteer groups such as Scouts Pack 140, Kiwanis, and the Key Club also play a vital role in staffing stations and creating a welcoming environment.
Why It Matters:
With more children biking to school, parks, and around neighborhoods, events like the Bike Rodeo are crucial for building awareness and fostering lifelong safety habits. It’s not just about riding—it’s about confidence, responsibility, and community engagement. By empowering kids and their families with knowledge and practice, we’re working together to reduce accidents and promote a culture of safety in Middleton.
